Quectel Wireless Solutions has launched the FCM665D, a Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth module with built-in edge AI processing for smart home, smart building, and industrial IoT devices. The module is designed to let devices process AI workloads locally, reducing dependence on cloud connectivity for applications such as voice recognition and image processing.

Designed for smart lighting, video doorbells, smart locks, and central control hubs, the FCM665D combines wireless connectivity with on-device AI capabilities to reduce latency, improve response times, and support real-time operation.

The module is built around a 32-bit triple-core Armv8-M Star MCU running at up to 480MHz. It integrates up to 16MB of PSRAM and 16MB of flash memory, enabling AI inference, multimedia processing, and local data storage. It also includes hardware acceleration for image encoding and decoding, making it suitable for low-power video doorbells, video door locks, LCD displays, energy storage systems, photovoltaic inverters, intelligent lighting, and building control systems.

For wireless connectivity, the FCM665D supports single-band 2.4GHz Wi-Fi 6 based on IEEE 802.11 b/g/n/ax, along with Bluetooth Classic 2.1 and Bluetooth Low Energy 5.4. It also supports Bluetooth-assisted Wi-Fi pairing to simplify device setup.

The module integrates an Ethernet Media Access Controller (MAC) with Reduced Media-Independent Interface (RMII), supporting IEEE 802.3-2015 compliant Ethernet connectivity for applications such as network interface cards, network nodes, and data center bridges.

Security features include WPA-PSK, WPA2-PSK, WPA3-SAE, hardware encryption, and Arm TrustZone technology to help protect devices and data.

Using Quectel’s QuecOpen platform, the FCM665D provides 50 GPIOs by default and up to 54 GPIOs depending on memory configuration and pin multiplexing, giving developers flexibility for embedded designs.

“This module has the AI capabilities and processing power to compete at the highest level,” said Delbert Sun, Vice General Manager, Product Department, Quectel Wireless Solutions. “Smart home and IoT devices are required to do more locally at the edge, from recognizing voice commands to processing images in real time, and that requires genuine computing performance. The FCM665D gives our customers that power in a compact module that is easy to integrate and deploy.”
