A new inspection platform combines fine foreign-body detection with inline quality checks and simplified setup for food manufacturers handling complex packaged products.

Minebea Intec has introduced the Identus 80, an X-ray inspection system designed for packaged-food production lines that need foreign-body detection alongside broader quality checks. The system combines 0.4 mm standard resolution, inline inspection functions and simplified product setup, targeting applications such as desserts, salad mixes and ready meals.
The system is designed to detect dense contaminants including metal, glass, stone, high-density bone and dense plastics after products have been packaged. This enables manufacturers to inspect sealed products without relying on visual access to their contents. The X-ray approach can therefore add a further inspection stage where contamination may otherwise remain hidden inside packaged food.
The key features are:
- 0.4 mm standard X-ray resolution
- Detects high-density bone and dense plastics
- Hygienic stainless-steel construction
- Flexible reject-system configurations
- Manufactured in India for regional markets
A key feature is the 0.4 mm detector resolution, which supports the identification of relatively small foreign bodies. The higher-resolution imaging is particularly useful for products with complex internal structures, where variations in food density and geometry can make contamination detection more challenging.
Beyond contamination detection, the Identus 80 is intended to perform inline product-quality checks. Such X-ray inspection systems can be used for functions including fill-level monitoring, checking product completeness and identifying deviations within packaged products. This allows a single inspection point to contribute to both food safety and production-quality control.
The system also focuses on reducing operator complexity. An intuitive teach-in function allows new products to be configured quickly, potentially reducing setup and training requirements when production changes between different food products. Flexible configurations for reject mechanisms and software settings allow the inspection process to be adapted to specific production requirements.
For food-processing environments, the Identus 80 uses a stainless-steel hygienic construction, supporting cleaning and operation in demanding production areas. The system is being launched initially across India, Asia-Pacific, the Middle East and South Africa, with manufacturing in India intended to support shorter lead times and local service for these markets.
The Identus 80 can therefore suit ready meals, desserts, salads and other packaged food products where manufacturers need high-resolution foreign-body detection combined with inline quality inspection.
