How can developers connect wired equipment to wireless networks without designing every part of the networking system? An embedded module offers several connectivity options.

Rajguru Electronics features the HLK-7688A embedded networking module from Shenzhen Hi-Link Electronic. The module is built around MediaTek’s MT7688AN processor and is designed for IoT and smart-device applications, the module combines Wi-Fi, Ethernet and peripheral interfaces with support for Linux-based software development.
The module can help developers integrate network connectivity into equipment such as smart devices, control systems and IoT gateways. It supports IEEE 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, with a stated wireless data rate of up to 150Mbps, and can operate as an access point, a client station or in a combined mode.
A notable feature is its support for five 10/100Mbps Ethernet ports, enabling wired network connections alongside wireless communication. The module also provides a USB 2.0 host interface and peripheral connections including UART, SPI, I2C, I2S, PCM, GPIO and JTAG. These interfaces allow developers to connect external devices, exchange data and integrate control functions into their designs.
At its core, the MT7688AN processor runs at 580MHz and is paired with 128MB of DDR2 RAM and 32MB of flash storage. Linux and OpenWrt-based development support allows software to be customised for specific applications. The module measures 18 × 32.8 × 2.8mm, making it suitable for designs with limited board space.
The specified supply voltage is 3.3V, with an allowable input range of 3V to 3.6V. Its listed operating temperature range is −20°C to 55°C. Engineers should check the module’s detailed pin definitions, software compatibility and RF specifications before integrating it into a finished product.
