DigiKey now features the Grinn Coralboard edge AI development board, which combines Coral neural processing unit (NPU) technology from Google Research with Synaptics Astra embedded processors. Manufactured by Grinn, the board gives electronics engineers a platform to prototype and evaluate applications that run artificial intelligence workloads directly on devices.

On-device AI processing can reduce reliance on cloud connectivity and support applications that need rapid responses or continuous operation. The Coralboard targets ultra-low-power, always-on systems, including smart cameras, industrial monitoring equipment, predictive maintenance systems, voice-enabled devices and battery-powered products.

The board integrates a Coral NPU to accelerate AI inference locally. It supports plug-and-play connections for cameras, displays and audio peripherals, helping developers test sensing and user-interaction features during prototyping. Connectivity options include Ethernet-over-USB, with optional support for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth modules.

The platform is designed to support development from initial evaluation and rapid prototyping through product integration and production-oriented designs. Engineers can use it to assess AI workloads and validate product concepts before committing to full-scale development. This provides a route to explore embedded AI applications on a common hardware platform as designs progress towards production.

The Coralboard brings together Google Research’s Coral NPU technology, Synaptics’ Astra processors and Grinn’s manufacturing expertise. It is intended for embedded developers, machine learning engineers, system architects and manufacturers developing connected products with on-device AI capabilities.

Mike Slater, vice president of global business development for DigiKey, says, “By carrying the full stack, from development board to module to silicon, DigiKey can support edge AI developers at every stage from experimentation to production. Google Research, Synaptics and Grinn have delivered a game-changing dev board to the electronics industry, and we are excited to support them in getting the board into the hands of engineers, designers, makers and developers worldwide.”
