Reference design provides an isolated 12 V power supply with PWM control for industrial and general-purpose AC-DC applications.

ROHM Semiconductor has developed a reference design for a 24 W isolated flyback power supply intended for industrial and general-purpose AC-DC power conversion applications. The evaluation board accepts an AC input voltage ranging from 90 V to 264 V and provides an isolated 12 V output with a maximum current of 2 A. The design integrates high-voltage switching functionality to simplify the power supply circuit and reduce the need for additional external components.
This reference design supports an input frequency range of 47Hz to 63Hz and a fixed regulated output voltage of 12 V. At an input voltage of 230 V and an output current of 2A, the design achieves a typical conversion efficiency of 86.6 per cent. The design also includes a low-input-voltage stop function.
The design uses a flyback-type power supply with PWM control and an integrated high voltage switching device. The switching device combines high breakdown voltage with low on-resistance, helping simplify the circuit design. The board supports an output current ranging from 0A to 2A and a maximum output power of 24W. The typical output ripple voltage is 0.11 V peak-to-peak, excluding spike noise.
The evaluation board measures 101 mm x 55 mm and operates over a temperature range of -10ºC to 65ºC. Under no-load conditions, standby Input power consumption is typically 85 mW. These characteristics make the reference design suitable for developing compact AC-DC power supplies requiring an isolated output and low standby power consumption.
