Bringing Offline Trucking Operations Online

Founded in 2015 by IIT-Kharagpur alumni, BlackBuck is devoted to making it easier for fleet operators to book a load so they can move at capacity, and give shippers of all sizes access to the right truck, at the right time, for the right price—at a click of a button.

India’s logistics market is expected to reach US$ 215 billion by 2020, led by the ever-expanding Indian economy and the burgeoning e-commerce industry. According to a research report titled “Logistics in India: Challenges and Scope”, despite an increase in demand for its services, the logistics sector in India remains bogged down in complexities that have the potential of holding it back. These include significant inefficiencies in transportation, poor condition of storage infrastructure, low rate of technology adoption and poor skills of logistics professionals.

BlackBuck brings cutting-edge technology to a traditionally low-tech sector. It matches a shipper with a trucker, takes care of information mismatch and clears the way for price discovery, thus achieving optimum efficiency. It also facilitates infrastructure around trucking, including insurance, payments and other financial services.

For shippers

The platform manages shipments on one smart and convenient platform. It helps shippers locate available trucks across the country without needing to make multiple phone calls or monitor shipments at every kilometre. Its machine learning algorithms connect shippers with the most suitable fleet operator depending on source, destination, material to be shipped and other details.

For fleet operators

Using BlackBuck, fleet operators can find and book daily loads for their fleet with ease, at fair and transparent pricing. They can align the trucks with BlackBuck platform to ensure higher truck utilisation to earn more. An efficient route planning helps them optimise time and reduce fuel expenses of the fleet.

Since its inception in April 2015, BlackBuck has acquired such clients as Britannia Industries, ITC, Asian Paints and Hindustan Unilever. It has more than 250,000 trucks on its platform across India. The company has partnered with the World Bank and the Indian government on key policy initiatives such as Goods & Services Tax (GST), e-way bill and more. It is currently expanding into areas of financial services to promote financial inclusion within the ecosystem.
