A Kerala startup deploys AI-driven hardware-software solutions to automate quality inspection in manufacturing.

VerifygnTech Private Limited, a Kerala-based deep tech startup founded in 2019, specialises in leveraging advanced AI-driven software to automate quality inspection processes for manufacturing and related industries. The company offers a hybrid of hardware and software products designed to be integrated into customers’ manufacturing lines.

Kesava Prasad T D, the Founder and Director of VerifygnTech, elaborates on the scope of defect detection, stating, “Anything visible to a camera can be identified by our system.” Citing an example, he highlights the PCB industry, where their AI-powered solution is used to detect bent pins that may interfere with the assembly process—just one of many applications of their technology.

The startup has also developed systems for inspecting relay modules, capable of detecting issues like improper wire crimping, loose connections, and incorrect wire colour sequences. More broadly, their advanced camera-based vision technology can identify a wide range of visually detectable defects. In PCB assembly, the system ensures correct component placement. It detects errors such as inserting the wrong part (like a capacitor instead of a resistor) or using components with incorrect specifications.

They aim to ensure defective parts—referred to as ‘NG’ or ‘not good’ in manufacturing terminology—are detected efficiently and accurately. This is also the inspiration behind the company’s name, which cleverly plays on the idea of ‘verifying NG,’ flipped to form ‘Veri-fy-GN.’

The startup’s target audience includes automotive OEMs (original equipment manufacturers), Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers, and, increasingly, small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

“Our reach has grown significantly—from large corporations to smaller suppliers providing components to international markets, including the United States. Our systems support a wide range of applications. For instance, we ensure the presence of critical engine components like bearing shells, verify correct label placements on export-bound bikes, and detect defects in metal castings such as dents and scratches,” shares Prasad.

Their solutions combine AI software with customised hardware and are often deployed as complete turnkey systems. These systems can be installed as standalone inspection stations or integrated directly into a customer’s production line. In line-integrated setups, the system detects defective parts in real time and triggers alerts, even stopping the line if necessary, until the issue is resolved. This ensures that no faulty component progresses further in the production process.

Depending on the level of automation and hardware complexity, their systems range in cost from `0.5 million for basic manual solutions to 2 million for fully automated versions. Higher-end models may include additional cameras and robotic components to inspect all sides of a part or sort multiple components.

Their product lineup includes systems such as V-Find for defect detection, V-Sort for sorting different parts, and V-Measure for dimensional measurement. They have also developed a groundbreaking product for inspecting defects inside bores or tubes using a camera-equipped industrial endoscope combined with AI—a first of its kind in India. This solution automates the entire inspection process inside pipes or cylindrical components, a task traditionally handled manually using industrial endoscopes.

The startup’s Trivandrum office serves as its headquarters and primary R&D centre, while assembly operations are carried out in Pune. They operate a modest assembly setup, relying on external vendors for machining and fabrication due to the project-based nature of their business. Since they handle around 25-30 models annually, they do not require a high-volume production facility. Instead, they focus on in-house design, customised lighting, AI-powered software, and component assembly.

The startup claims that approximately 60% of its components, such as cameras and lenses, are imported from regions like Singapore, Hong Kong, and the US, with the remaining 40% sourced locally or manufactured in-house.

They have completed over 50 installations across India and anticipate revenue of 17 million for the current fiscal year, with a target to double that next year. Long-term plans include expanding into export markets, particularly through partnerships with international firms serving low-volume, high-variety component manufacturing.

Their systems are designed to integrate seamlessly with existing production lines, using control systems that communicate directly with the customer’s machinery. This integration is part of their standard delivery, ensuring minimal disruption to manufacturing workflows. After-sales support is another key focus area, with a dedicated team regularly travelling across India to provide maintenance and assistance.

Verifygn generates revenue by offering hardware and software as a single integrated solution, rather than standalone products.

Discussing future plans, Prasad reveals that the company has ambitious goals for the coming years. They aim to expand their footprint in southern and western India, focusing on the Chennai–Bengaluru corridor and Pune/Gujarat, and are considering new offices or operational facilities in these regions. Additionally, they are actively exploring funding opportunities to help achieve their projected revenue target of 150-200 million within the next two years.
