80W DC/DC Converter Brings Compact Power To Electronics

Traco Power’s new 80 W DC/DC converter delivers isolated power in a compact package, supporting industrial, communications, instrumentation and mobile electronics applications with efficient operation.

Traco Power has introduced the TEN 80WI Series, an 80 W isolated DC/DC converter designed to deliver regulated power in a compact 2 × 1-inch package. The series combines a wide input-voltage range, electrical isolation and protection features for demanding electronics applications.

The converters are housed in an encapsulated, shielded metal package measuring approximately 2 × 1 × 0.43 inches. They support a wide 4:1 input-voltage range, covering 9–36 VDC and 18–75 VDC versions, allowing designers to address different power architectures with the same compact form factor.

The TEN 80WI Series provides up to 92% efficiency and operates across a temperature range of -40°C to +60°C without derating. An optional heatsink can further improve thermal performance where higher temperature capability is required.

For system protection, the converters include safeguards against over-temperature, overload, overvoltage and short-circuit conditions. A 1,500 VDC input/output isolation rating provides additional separation between power domains, supporting applications where electrical isolation is important.

The series also integrates remote on/off control and an output trim function, giving designers greater flexibility when integrating the converter into equipment. These features can help simplify power management and accommodate different system requirements without adding external circuitry.

Traco Power positions the TEN 80WI Series for applications including mobile equipment, instrumentation, distributed power architectures, communication systems and industrial electronics. Its compact metal construction is intended to support reliable operation where board space and power density are important considerations.

With 80 W output capability in a standardised 2 × 1-inch footprint, the series provides a combination of power density, isolation and protection for embedded power designs. The company also offers a three-year product warranty, supporting its use in industrial and other long-life equipment.
