A new rectifier family combines ultra-low forward voltage, low leakage, and enhanced avalanche capability to improve efficiency and reliability in demanding automotive power circuits.

Diodes Incorporated’s new Field-Plated Super Barrier Rectifier (SBRFP) family is designed to address two persistent challenges in automotive power electronics: conduction losses and reliability under high-temperature and transient conditions. The automotive-compliant devices combine low forward voltage with low reverse leakage, allowing designers to improve power efficiency without compromising robustness.
The initial portfolio includes the 2A SBRFP2M60P1Q, 2A SBRFP2M60SAFQ, 3A SBRFP3M60SAFQ, and 8A SBRFP8A60P5Q. They can serve as drop-in alternatives to comparable Schottky and PN-junction rectifiers in applications where lower losses and higher surge tolerance are important.
The standout device is the SBRFP8A60P5Q, which achieves a maximum forward voltage of just 0.55V at 8A. The low VF reduces conduction losses and heat generation, helping power converters and other high-current circuits operate more efficiently.
At the other end of the performance spectrum, the SBRFP2M60P1Q and SBRFP3M60SAFQ focus on minimizing reverse leakage. Their maximum leakage currents are specified at 12µA and 7µA, respectively, helping reduce unwanted power dissipation, particularly when automotive electronics operate at elevated temperatures.
The key features are:
- Field-plated SBR structure for improved rectification performance
- Avalanche energy capability up to 145mJ
- Maximum junction temperature of 175°C
- Available in compact PowerDI and SMAF footprints
- Automotive-focused designs for harsh transient environments
The devices use Diodes’ proprietary field-plated SBR technology based on a MOS manufacturing process rather than the conventional Schottky structure. This enables a combination of low VF, low leakage, and improved ruggedness in a single rectifier platform.
Another important advantage is avalanche capability. Depending on the device, the family supports avalanche energy ratings of up to 145mJ. This provides greater tolerance to electrical surges, load-dump events, and other transients encountered in vehicle power networks. The avalanche capability is claimed to be five to ten times higher than conventional Schottky rectifiers, improving protection against transient stress.
The SBRFP devices are available in PowerDI123, PowerDI5, and SMAF packages and operate across a -55°C to +175°C junction-temperature range.Typical applications include DC-DC converters, reverse-polarity protection, battery charging circuits, automotive LED lighting, and transmission control systems.
