A new automotive imaging radar chip has entered mass production. Infineon Technologies announced the production-ready radar MMIC, designed for centralized radar architectures used in advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and autonomous driving.

The radar transceiver transmits raw sensor data directly to a central vehicle processor instead of relying on distributed edge processing. This architecture reduces hardware complexity and supports centralized vehicle computing.

Designed for 4D and HD imaging radar applications, the device delivers improved signal-to-noise ratio and noise figure performance. It can detect vehicles and vulnerable road users at distances of up to 400 metres and meets RF performance requirements for Level 2 and Level 2+ ADAS applications.

Some of the key features include:

  • Industry’s first production-ready 8Tx8Rx imaging radar MMIC
  • Supports centralized radar architectures
  • Based on second-generation CMOS technology
  • Detection range of up to 400 metres
  • Cascading support beyond 32Tx32Rx channels
  • Configurable CSI-2 interface compatible with SerDes and Ethernet communication technologies
  • Designed for 4D and HD imaging radar systems
  • Supports Level 2 and Level 2+ ADAS platforms

The company also offers a radar development platform in multiple configurations for centralized and edge radar architectures. It includes software tools, sample code, and a graphical user interface for system evaluation and prototyping.

The radar MMIC and development platform are available now for automotive manufacturers and Tier-1 suppliers developing ADAS and autonomous driving systems.
