A battery cell tester measures five cells simultaneously, performs OCV and ACIR tests, and supports battery quality inspection in production.

GÖPEL electronic has introduced a modular battery cell tester that can evaluate the quality, charging efficiency, and reliability of up to five battery cells simultaneously. Intended for automotive battery manufacturers, battery cell suppliers, EV manufacturers, and battery testing laboratories, the system can be used for battery cell quality assurance during both product development and production. It also integrates with automated equipment to support high-speed batch testing.
The tester performs standard battery safety and condition tests, including Open Circuit Voltage (OCV) and Alternating Current Internal Resistance (ACIR) measurements. OCV measures the voltage of a battery without a load to indicate its state of charge, while ACIR determines the cell’s internal resistance under alternating current, providing information about its performance, ageing, and overall quality. These measurements help users identify defective or degraded cells, verify charging characteristics, and classify cells before they are assembled into battery modules and packs.
According to the company, the tester delivers fast and reproducible test results and can complete batch testing within seconds when connected to automated production equipment. This makes it suitable for applications such as incoming inspection of battery cells, production-line quality checks, and cell grouping, where cells with similar characteristics are matched before pack assembly.
The battery cell tester features a modular design that allows it to be configured for different testing requirements. It complements GÖPEL electronic’s existing battery testing portfolio, including its end-of-line (EOL) battery test system, which performs comprehensive test routines on complete battery packs.
The company said the tester was developed to address the growing complexity of high-voltage batteries used in electric vehicles. As new battery cell chemistries continue to enter the market, automotive suppliers and manufacturers require flexible testing systems that can support quality assurance throughout development and production while helping improve battery performance, manufacturing automation, and production workflows.
