This Bluetooth Auracast Test Synced Hundreds of Devices at Once — A World Record!

Bluetooth test streams one audio source to hundreds of devices at once, showing synchronized listening across users and use in shared environments.

A large-scale live test of Auracast Bluetooth at Cledara Abbey Stadium demonstrated synchronised audio playback across hundreds of devices, setting a new world record on March 29.

During a half-time activation at a Cambridge United Women’s match, supporters connected and played Majority Move WR Bluetooth speakers simultaneously from a single audio source. The coordinated playback surpassed the previous record of 1,000 synchronised speakers set in 2017, validating large-scale one-to-many Bluetooth audio transmission.

Bluetooth Auracast, part of the latest Bluetooth standard, enables a single device to broadcast audio to multiple receivers such as speakers or headphones. Unlike conventional Bluetooth, which relies on limited pairing, Auracast removes these constraints and allows shared listening across large groups.

The stadium environment provided a real-world test case, where maintaining low latency and synchronisation across many devices is challenging due to signal interference and user density. The system sustained stable performance, showing its suitability for applications such as public announcements, assistive listening, and live event audio distribution.

To support the test, attendees were given pre-configured Bluetooth speakers on arrival and activated them simultaneously during the half-time window. This controlled setup helped ensure consistent connectivity and synchronisation across devices.

The event also recorded the highest attendance for a Cambridge United Women’s match, creating a dense usage scenario for evaluating the technology under live conditions.

Guinness World Record Adjudicator Glenn Pollard said “When I first heard about this record, I assumed it would be simple. As it turned out there were many technical hurdles to overcome, not least the issue of ensuring the speakers did not connect to an alternative sound source as dictated by the GWR Guidelines. I have been impressed with the excellent level of planning and organisation displayed by Eddie and his team in achieving this record”.
