Compact DC UPS Secures Industrial Power

Industrial automation systems need uninterrupted control power during outages. A compact backup unit combines battery management, USB-C configuration, and system diagnostics to improve reliability inside space-constrained control cabinets.

Compact DC UPS

Weidmuller has introduced the DURAmax DC UPS, a 24V uninterruptible power supply (UPS) designed to keep programmable logic controllers (PLCs), sensors and other industrial automation devices operating during mains power interruptions. The compact unit automatically switches connected loads to battery power when the DC input voltage drops, helping prevent unexpected shutdowns and production downtime. The product is available in 5A, 10A, 20A and 40A variants to support different load requirements.

The system is designed for industrial control cabinets where installation space is limited and continuous power is essential. It can be used in machine building, process automation, plant control and other applications that rely on uninterrupted 24V DC supplies for controllers, sensors and associated equipment.

The DURAmax DC UPS supports configuration through a USB-C interface using the Windows-based DURAmax DC UPS Manager software. Technicians can configure the UPS and compatible battery modules, while the software provides real-time information about system status and performance. Front-panel LED indicators display operating conditions, battery status and faults, helping maintenance personnel identify problems without relying solely on external diagnostic equipment.

The key features are:

  • Three relay outputs and three transistor outputs for remote system control.
  • Battery availability is checked cyclically by the UPS controller.
  • Operating temperature limits for battery charging and discharging: −15°C to +50°C.
  • Separate control input to lock battery operation.
  • Four order numbers: 2934940000 (5A), 2934950000 (10A), 2934960000 (20A) and 2934970000 (40A).

The UPS uses temperature-compensated battery charging to support battery performance under varying thermal conditions. Integrated deep-discharge protection helps extend battery service life and reduce maintenance requirements. A battery cold-start function allows the system to start using battery power when required, including situations where the normal power supply is unavailable.

For installation, the unit uses PUSH-IN connections and clearly labelled terminals to simplify wiring and reduce panel assembly time. It is compatible with Weidmuller’s PRO ECO II, PRO MAX and PRO TOP 24V DC power supplies, along with DURA ECO battery modules. These components can be combined to build a coordinated backup system, with battery capacity selected according to the application’s required backup duration.

The DURAmax range is also designed with cybersecurity requirements in mind, including readiness for the European Union’s Cyber Resilience Act. By combining backup power, configuration and diagnostics in a compact unit, it provides system designers with an integrated option for maintaining power continuity in industrial automation installations.
