A new 600V inverter module shrinks power electronics footprints while improving thermal performance, protection, and efficiency for motor-drive applications in appliances and industrial equipment alike.

STMicroelectronics has introduced the STGI15C60S, the first device in its new SLLIMM Compact intelligent power module family. The 600V, 20A three-phase IGBT inverter module uses a direct-bonded copper (DBC) substrate and an 18.8mm × 32.8mm footprint, making it more than 30% smaller than comparable IGBT intelligent power modules in DBC packages.
Designed for low- and medium-power motor-drive applications, the module integrates high-side and low-side gate-driver ICs, IGBTs, freewheeling diodes, a bootstrap diode, and protection functions. ST says the compact design targets applications such as air conditioners, heat pumps, fans, pumps, compressors, and other home appliances.
The module combines a short-circuit-rugged trench-gate field-stop IGBT with fast, soft-recovery diodes. It is designed for hard-switching topologies operating at frequencies of up to 20kHz, while the DBC construction supports thermal management and helps maintain reliable operation.
For system protection, the device incorporates undervoltage lockout, smart shutdown, a temperature sensor, and a fault comparator. Its fully isolated package provides an isolation rating of 2000Vrms minimum, while the control and power-stage architecture is designed to simplify motor-drive circuit layouts.
The module also features topside cooling and places high-side reference outputs on the signal side of its dual-inline package. According to ST, these design choices can simplify the bootstrap circuit and support compact power-stage layouts.
The STGI15C60S is already in production in a CDIPB-26L DBC package. ST lists applications including industrial motor control, washing machines, air conditioners, fans, pumps, and compressors. The SLLIMM Compact family is planned to expand with additional current ratings and device configurations.
