Qorvo Advances X-Band Radar Performance with a More Efficient and Sensitive Compact Front-End Module

Qorvo has introduced an X-band radar front-end module for defense radar systems, combining transmit power, receive sensitivity, and power efficiency in a single compact package. Designed for phased array and multifunction radar applications, the module helps engineers improve radar performance without increasing system size, weight, or power requirements.

The module operates from 8.5 GHz to 10.5 GHz and delivers 10 W of saturated transmit power. It achieves 42% power-added efficiency and a 2.1 dB noise figure, allowing radar systems to extend detection range, reduce thermal load, and improve target detection performance while simplifying system design.

Built for X-band phased array radar applications, the module integrates transmit and receive functions into a 7 mm × 5 mm package. This high level of integration reduces component count and helps engineers address size, weight, power, and thermal management requirements in radar platforms.

The architecture is designed to maintain consistent RF output power and efficiency across changing antenna loads, helping active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar systems deliver more stable performance across different scan angles. The integration is supported by advanced RF design and packaging technologies that bring multiple functions into a single module.

Key features include:

• 10 W saturated transmit power across 8.5 GHz to 10.5 GHz
• 42% power-added efficiency
• 2.1 dB noise figure
• Integrated transmit/receive functionality in a 7 mm × 5 mm package

The module is intended for next-generation radar systems that require higher performance while maintaining compact front-end architectures.
