Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. has upgraded its VSOP383xx series of preamplifier circuits for infrared (IR) remote control applications in consumer electronics with the new Cyllene 2 IC. The updated solutions, housed in a compact QFN package, serve as direct replacements for existing models while offering a wider supply voltage range, 37% higher dark-ambient sensitivity, and improved resistance to strong DC light and Wi-Fi interference.

This product is suitable for consumer electronics manufacturers producing televisions, soundbars, gaming consoles, set-top boxes, and audio equipment that rely on IR remote control. Mobile device makers can benefit from its compact size and low power consumption, while PCB designers and hardware engineers can integrate it easily as a drop-in replacement. It also serves IoT and smart home device developers, automotive manufacturers incorporating IR controls in vehicles, and designers of outdoor equipment requiring resistance to bright sunlight and environmental interference.

With low power consumption across a broader voltage range, the series extends battery life and saves space in mobile devices. By integrating Vishay’s latest in-house IC technology, the company ensures long-term product availability with shorter lead times. As drop-in replacements require no PCB redesign, these components help reduce costs for manufacturers.

Designed for IR remote control in televisions, soundbars, gaming systems, set-top boxes, and audio equipment, the preamplifier circuits enhance robustness against interference from various light sources and ripple noise on the supply voltage. They also offer reduced susceptibility to EMI from 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz signals, allowing placement near Wi-Fi antennas for greater design flexibility. Their ability to function under bright sunlight makes them suitable for outdoor use. The RoHS-compliant, halogen-free, and Vishay Green devices are available with carrier frequencies of 36 kHz (VSOP38336) and 38 kHz (VSOP38338).
