Flat-wire chokes reduce electrical noise in power circuits, helping engineers build DC-DC converters and power systems with EMI control and stable operation.

TDK Corporation has introduced the EP21 series of flat-wire double chokes for common-mode EMI filtering in DC-DC converters and other low-voltage EMC protection circuits. The surface-mount components support rated voltages of 48 V AC or 80 V DC and can carry rated currents from 20.3 A to 35 A without derating at temperatures up to +70°C. Above this temperature, current derating is required.
The EP21 series offers rated inductance values from 160 µH to 640 µH, DC resistance as low as 0.44 mΩ, and average stray inductance as low as 200 nH. Depending on the variant, the maximum impedance occurs between 500 kHz and 3 MHz, enabling effective suppression of common-mode noise in power conversion circuits.
The chokes are intended for power electronics engineers designing industrial equipment, telecom systems, automotive electronics, battery-powered products, and other low-voltage power systems. They can be used to reduce conducted EMI in DC-DC converters and EMC protection circuits, helping products meet EMC requirements while maintaining stable power delivery.

The components are housed in a 23.8 × 17.7 mm SMD package with heights ranging from 21.6 mm to 22.3 mm. Underbody termination reduces the PCB footprint, while the four-pin construction improves mechanical reliability during assembly and operation.
