A frequency counter, developed by B&K Precision, California, has been derived as a unique tool for frequency measurement. The ‘1820B’ series universal frequency counters, designed for precision and adaptability, promise to transform applications ranging from telecommunications to oscillator validation.

The compact series supports a wide frequency range and offers up to 10 digits of resolution for precise measurements. This versatile instrument employs reciprocal counting, ensuring high accuracy across a range of metrics, including frequency, period, pulse width, and event counting. With models covering 1mHz to 3GHz (1823B) and up to 6GHz (1826B), the device delivers 8 significant digits in just one second, improving to 10 digits with extended measurement time. Engineers, researchers, and technicians in fields such as telecommunications, electronics manufacturing, and aerospace are likely to benefit from its advanced features, which cater to demanding accuracy requirements and diverse testing scenarios.

“A stable and accurate internal frequency reference with low aging rate is integral to the 1820B Series,” a source stated. This stability is attributed to its temperature-compensated internal frequency reference, which maintains an accuracy of ±1ppm across varying conditions. The instrument’s flexibility is further enhanced by Input A, which offers signal conditioning over DC to 125MHz with configurable parameters like coupling, impedance, and threshold. Input B supports frequencies from 80MHz to 3GHz, while the 1826B model adds Input C, extending measurement capabilities to 6GHz.

Equipped with a USB interface, the frequency counter enables remote control and power through a computer, while additional powering options include an AC charger or internal battery with up to 24 hours of operation. The clear 0.5-inch LCD ensures effortless readability, making it user-friendly for diverse applications.

This latest advancement underscores the ongoing push toward high-resolution, reliable test and measurement tools in precision-driven industries. The latest series sets a new standard for accuracy and versatility in frequency counters, offering a significant upsurge for researchers and engineers alike.
