Renesas Launches New MOSFETs & New Manufacturing Process

Renesas Electronics Corporation has launched 100V high-power N-Channel MOSFETs, offering top-tier high-current switching performance for applications like motor control, battery management, power management, and charging. These include electric vehicles, e-bikes, charging stations, power tools, data centres, and UPS systems.

The MOSFETs feature Renesas’ advanced REXFET-1 wafer process, which reduces on-resistance by 30%, minimizing power loss in customer designs. The process also improves gate charge characteristics, cutting Qg by 10% and Qgd by 40%.

The MOSFETs are commonly used in power applications for renewable energy sources, such as photovoltaic (PV) inverters and electric storage systems (ESS). They are also integral to motor inverter drives for electric tools and other equipment.

For AI servers, accelerator switching power supplies, and power supplies for base stations in wireless infrastructure, the key to improving performance is reducing losses through high-speed switching. Renesas’ MOSFETs support miniaturization and increased efficiency with low on-resistance and excellent switching performance.

Vehicle control systems require flexibility to support a range of voltages, especially the 12V and 24V power systems in internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles and the 48V systems found in electric two-wheelers and e-carts. Renesas’ MOSFETs provide a comprehensive range to support the rapidly evolving control systems for electric vehicles (xEVs) and power conversion applications in charging infrastructure.

The company also offers “Winning Combinations” of these MOSFETs with other compatible devices, including the 48V Mobility Platform and the 3-in-1 Electric Vehicle Unit. These vetted system architectures ensure a low-risk, optimized design for faster market entry.

“Renesas has been a leader in the MOSFET market for many years,” said Avi Kashyap, Vice President of Discrete Power Solutions BU at Renesas. “As we apply our manufacturing muscle to this market, we can provide customers with superior technical products and assurance of supply from multiple high-volume facilities.”
