Teledyne FLIR has announced the release of Hadron 640R, a high-performance, Dual thermal and OEM camera module. The 64MegaPixel camera combines a radiometric thermal and visible dual-camera module and is optimized for integration into applications where battery life and run-time are mission-critical such as unmanned aerial and ground vehicles, and robotic platforms, and emerging AI-ready applications.

According to the company, the camera is equipped with a 640 x 512 resolution Boson longwave infrared (LWIR) thermal camera and a 64MP visible camera. The camera is an upgrade over the original Hadron which had a 12MP camera.

“The original Hadron had a 320 x 240 pixel non-radiometric thermal camera paired with a 12MP visible camera, and was designed to pair with the NVIDIA Jetson TX2 Microprocessor,” Brodbeck explains.  “This industry moves so fast that today, this is old news.”

The camera is capable of seeing through smoke, fog, complete darkness,  glare, and provides temperature measurements for every pixel in the scene. Moreover, it comes with an IP-54 rating that protects it from dust and water. The radiometry feature in this camera makes it suitable for application in an inspection over larger areas such as in solar farms. “On the thermal side, having the radiometry gives so much more information, especially for inspections,” Brodbeck explains.  “When you are flying over solar farms, you might see a lot of glowing cells – but you need more information to see if there is really a problem.  Our isotherm features allow you to pick out those truly problematic cells to create a work order.”

The camera module comes in a small package measuring 35 x 49 x 45 mm and weighing just 56g. It is capable of reducing the development costs and time-to-market for integrators and original equipment manufacturers (OEM). The company also offers drivers for processors from NVIDIA, Qualcomm, etc, along with the integration support and service from a support team of experts. It also offers flexible 60 Hz video output via USB or MIPI compatibility.

The Hadron 640R is available for purchase globally from Teledyne FLIR and its authorized dealers.
