Vishay Intertechnology has introduced the TSOP15300 series of infrared (IR) receiver modules for remote control applications. The new receivers support modulation frequencies from 30 kHz to 68 kHz, allowing them to receive and demodulate most major IR remote control codes with a single component.

Conventional IR receivers are usually designed for one specific center frequency, making it necessary to use different devices for different remote control protocols. The TSOP15300 series addresses this by supporting a wider frequency range, helping reduce the number of components required while saving board space and lowering system costs.

The receivers are intended for consumer electronics, including televisions, audio systems, gaming consoles, soundbars, set-top boxes, and projectors. They are designed to reduce interference from sources such as compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs), LCD televisions, and Wi-Fi antennas. When used with a 50 mA IR emitter, they can support transmission distances of up to 18 metres.

Each module combines a photodetector, preamplifier, and IR filter in a 4-pin Heimdall package. The demodulated output can be connected directly to a microprocessor for decoding. The devices are designed for short-burst IR codes and operate with a supply voltage from 2.0 V to 5.5 V while drawing a typical current of 0.35 mA. They have a maximum irradiance of 0.2 mW/m² at 45 kHz and are compliant with RoHS, halogen-free, and Vishay Green standards.

The TSOP15300 series is available for sampling and volume production, with a lead time of about six weeks.
