MCU Targets High-Precision Smart Measurement Designs

A new 32-bit microcontroller integrates precision analog, LCD driving and voice capabilities to simplify the design of portable medical, industrial and smart sensing equipment while reducing power consumption and external component count.

MCU

The NSC128L42 is a new 32-bit Arm Cortex-M23 microcontroller SoC developed by Nuvoton Technology Corporation for precision measurement and embedded control applications. By integrating high-resolution analog circuitry, display driving and audio functions into a single chip, the device helps designers reduce component count, board space and overall system cost while accelerating product development.

MCU

Designed for applications requiring accurate signal acquisition, the NSC128L42 combines a 24-bit Sigma-Delta ADC for high-resolution measurements with a 12-bit SAR ADC for faster general-purpose conversions. Integrated low-noise and operational amplifiers further improve signal quality while minimizing the need for external analog circuitry. These capabilities make the device suitable for equipment such as blood pressure monitors, electronic weighing scales, portable test instruments and other precision sensing systems.

The key features are:

  • Up to 49.152MHz Arm Cortex-M23 CPU
  • 320KB Flash plus 18KB SRAM with 6KB configurable ISP bootloader
  • 2.0V–5.5V operating voltage range
  • -40°C to +85°C industrial operating temperature
  • Brown-Out Detector and In-Circuit Programming (ICP) support

Beyond its analog capabilities, the MCU integrates a broad range of communication and control peripherals, including multiple UART interfaces, SPI/SPIM connectivity, six-channel Peripheral Direct Memory Access (PDMA), three 16-bit timers and PWM outputs. An integrated LCD driver supports multiple COM/SEG configurations, enabling direct connection to segment displays for compact human-machine interfaces.

The device also incorporates built-in audio capability through an integrated Class-D speaker driver delivering up to 0.35W output at 3.6V. This allows designers to implement voice prompts, audio alerts and spoken guidance without requiring dedicated external audio hardware, enhancing usability in consumer, medical and industrial products.

MCU

Power efficiency is another key focus of the NSC128L42. Multiple low-power operating modes, including a Deep Power Down mode with current consumption below 1µA, help extend battery life in portable equipment. An internal low-speed RC oscillator enables periodic wake-up for event monitoring while maintaining minimal energy consumption.

With its combination of precision analog integration, low-power operation, embedded audio and rich peripheral support, the NSC128L42 provides a compact platform for next-generation smart measurement, healthcare, industrial automation and portable embedded applications.
