Network test switches automate lab connections

Switches that let you connect and share test equipment through software, change network test setups, and reduce manual cabling.

Network testing teams can configure and change test setups in seconds or minutes instead of spending hours reconnecting cables using the Velocity 4900 Series of Layer 1 automation switches from Keysight Technologies.

The switches allow you to configure, manage, and share test equipment through software and a graphical user interface (GUI). This reduces manual cabling when switching between tests and allows teams to access equipment across locations.

The Velocity 4900 Series allows you to create, save, modify, and reproduce test configurations through software. Teams can share equipment remotely, reduce the need to duplicate instruments, and recreate setups for repeatable testing.

The series includes two models. The Velocity 4902 supports Ethernet speeds from 100 megabits per second (Mbps) to 100 gigabits per second (Gbps). It has 72 QSFP28 ports and supports up to 288 connections through breakout configurations for functional and performance testing.

Both models use a Layer 1 switching matrix designed for low-latency signal forwarding. They support single-mode and multimode fibre, direct-attach copper cables, and active optical cables. Engineers can configure port speeds and connection media independently for each port.

The switches support port tapping for diagnostics and monitoring, along with one-to-many traffic replication. These functions allow engineers to monitor network traffic and send copies to multiple test destinations, increasing test coverage and helping teams use traffic-generation equipment.

Authorised users can access shared test equipment remotely without changing cables or moving instruments. Engineers can set up test environments, run tests, and reproduce configurations through software, reducing manual work and the time needed to switch between test scenarios.

The Velocity 4900 Series can serve as a starting point for laboratories planning to automate their test infrastructure. Through its wider Velocity portfolio, Keysight offers resource reservation, laboratory orchestration, test automation, and integration with CI/CD workflows. These capabilities help engineering teams manage equipment, increase test coverage, and reduce the time spent configuring test setups.
