A new integrated power stage combines GaN devices, drivers, protection and sensing to simplify compact, efficient motor-drive designs for demanding applications and equipment.

Efficient Power Conversion (EPC) has introduced the EPC23100 family, a 100 V integrated GaN ePower Stage designed for high-performance motor drives. The devices combine power transistors, gate drivers and protection features to help engineers develop compact and efficient motor-control systems.
The family includes the EPC23100, EPC23106, EPC23110 and EPC23111, with availability through distribution partners including DigiKey and Mouser. By integrating key power-stage functions, the devices aim to reduce component count and simplify motor-drive designs.
The ePower Stage integrates high-side and low-side GaN FETs, gate drivers and level-shifting circuitry within a compact package. The architecture supports operation up to 100 V, with current ratings of up to 35 A and 20 A, depending on the device. This combination is intended to deliver high efficiency while supporting demanding motor applications.
Protection features are included to improve system reliability. These include fast fault shutdown, safe gate control under power-loss conditions and continuous-duty cycle operation at 100%. The devices also provide input options designed to support simpler motor-control architectures.
According to EPC, the integrated approach addresses demand for higher-volume GaN power stages that can simplify design while delivering improved performance and reliability. Bringing several functions into one device can also help reduce board space and the complexity associated with discrete implementations.
The power stages are aimed at applications requiring efficient switching and precise motor control. Their 100 V capability makes them suitable for a range of motor-drive architectures where switching losses, thermal performance and compactness are important design considerations.
By combining GaN power devices with supporting drive and protection circuitry, the EPC23100 family offers engineers a more integrated route to developing high-performance motor-drive systems. This could help accelerate designs for next-generation equipment where efficiency, reliability and power density are increasingly important.
