These cost-effective, space-saving devices deliver up to 120 N of force with low voltage operation (12V nominal, 8V to 16V range), making them perfect for HD haptic effects in automotive and commercial uses.

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. has introduced five new additions to its IHPT series of solenoidbased haptic actuators, expanding the range with different sizes and force levels. These actuators, licensed from Immersion Corporation, operate at 12 V and are designed for use in humanmachine interfaces (HMI) for automotive and commercial applications. Typical implementations include LCD displays, touchscreens, touch switches, and button control panels, where highdefinition (HD) tactile feedback is crucial.

The key features include:

  • Four sizes: 29 mm x 21 mm to 44 mm x 37 mm
  •  Variable force outputs up to 120 N
  •  Compact, twopiece construction
  •  Mounting holes for easy installation
  •  Direct force application
  •  5 millisecond response time
  •  Operates at voltages between 8 V and 16 V

These actuators are capable of generating HD haptic effects with high mechanical force. Their robust copper and iron core construction supports operation at temperatures up to +105 °C, ensuring reliability in demanding environments.

One of the devices, the AECQ200 qualified IHPT1411AFELR73ABA, is intended for automotive applications such as dashboards, center consoles, electronic shift transmissions, and other invehicle controls. Other models in the series, including IHPT1207AGELR39AB0, IHPT1710ACEL1R2AB0, IHPT1411AFELR73AB0, and IHPT1614ACEL2R7BB0, are suited for a wide range of applications, such as factory automation, consumer appliances, medical devices, and studio audio equipment.

The actuators operate at a nominal 12 V, eliminating the need for highvoltage circuitry often required by competing technologies. This simplifies integration and reduces costs, especially as the actuators come with bundled Immersion licenses. Additional benefits include compact size, high force density, and lower component height compared to alternatives like piezo and linear resonant actuators.  These RoHScompliant and halogenfree devices can be customized in terms of size, shape, core material, and performance. Samples and production quantities are currently available, with lead times ranging from 8 to 12 weeks.
