New tool promises smarter antenna design

A new platform aims to simplify antenna selection and PCB placement, helping engineers improve wireless performance while reducing development time.

Kyocera has launched the Antenna Integrator Studio, an RF engineering tool designed to simplify antenna selection and PCB placement for wireless devices. The software helps engineers identify suitable antennas and their optimal positions on a PCB, reducing issues such as signal attenuation, impedance mismatch, limited wireless range and excessive battery drain.

The platform enables users to enter PCB dimensions, specify the required number of antennas, select target frequency bands and define optimisation priorities, such as maximising efficiency or minimising cost. It then recommends suitable antenna options and placement locations while generating interactive performance charts to support design decisions.

Engineers can further evaluate key RF parameters, including return loss, peak gain and radiation patterns across multiple frequency bands. The software also allows DXF and 3D design files to be downloaded, enabling seamless integration into PCB layouts and helping accelerate prototyping.

Designed for ease of use, the platform includes a guided workflow that enables engineers to evaluate antenna configurations with minimal manual effort. A built-in video tutorial further assists users in navigating the design process and making the most of the software’s capabilities.

The initial release includes thousands of simulations for board-mounted embedded antennas, providing engineers with a broad range of design options. Kyocera said future versions of the platform will introduce additional antenna technologies and expanded functionality to support more wireless applications.
