HDMI is moving to 8K and beyond, but new tests may slow things down. A new way of checking could change how devices get ready.

Engineers working with HDMI devices face mounting challenges in keeping signal integrity as demand grows for 8K/12K video, HDR content, and high-speed connectivity. New requirements from the HDMI Forum’s HDMI 2.2 test specification add stricter compliance checks for transmitters and cables, highlighting gaps in traditional testing and raising the risk of redesigns and certification delays.
To address these challenges, Keysight Technologies has released an enhanced physical layer compliance test solution for HDMI. The system, called the Keysight Electrical Performance, Validation, and Compliance Test Solution, provides automated validation and compliance testing for transmitters and cables, with receiver testing planned for later. It is designed to handle the bandwidth and complexity of modern HDMI applications such as UHD video, HDR content, and immersive audio.
The platform brings together high-bandwidth measurement hardware and automated workflows to manage complex test scenarios. Its modular architecture allows flexible configurations, while built-in diagnostics trace the causes of signal degradation. By unifying electrical performance, validation, and compliance testing under the HDMI 2.2 specification, the solution gives design and validation teams a way to confirm compliance and improve performance earlier in development.
As HDMI technology advances toward higher resolutions, faster refresh rates, and greater bandwidth, automated test platforms like this one are becoming central to ensuring reliable performance and shorter time-to-market.
Han Sing Lim, Vice President and General Manager of Keysight’s General Electronic Measurement Division, said: “With the introduction of the Keysight Electrical Performance, Validation, and Compliance Test Solution for HDMI, our customers can accelerate time-to-market for next-gen consumer electronics while ensuring robust integrity and regulatory compliance. By incorporating the latest version of HDMI technology in our solution, we are enabling leading consumer electronics designers and manufacturers to continue to push the boundaries of digital display and multimedia performance.”
