A wireless microcontroller that boosts speed, cuts power losses, and simplifies design making next-generation IoT products easier and more affordable to build.

Today’s IoT devices must stay always connected for real-time updates are expected to run on less power. Traditional Wi-Fi fails to keep up, draining battery quickly and struggling in crowded environments. As smart homes, industrial systems, medical wearables, and automation devices grow more demanding, the need for a Wi-Fi solution that is fast and efficient and at the same time secure, reliable becomes critical.
Renesas Electronics Corporation introduced the RA6W1 dual-band Wi-Fi 6 wireless microcontroller (MCU), along with built-in antennas, protocol stacks, and reliable RF connectivity to help developers shorten design cycles. These devices are designed for smart homes, consumer electronics, industrial IoT, medical tools, sensors, and battery-powered gadgets that need fast and low-power wireless performance.
The Wi-Fi 6 MCU provides:
- Ultra-low power consumption
- 200 nA to 4 µA in sleep mode
- Under 50 µA in DTIM10 (power saving mode)
- Target Wake Time (TWT) keeps devices connected while saving battery
- Strong processing performance:
- 160 MHz Arm Cortex-M33
- 704 KB built-in SRAM
- Ultra-low
- Reliable, high-speed connectivity
- Dual-band (2.4 GHz + 5 GHz)
- OFDMA ensures fast, stable connections even in crowded networks
For data protection, the MCUs include strong security features like AES-256 encryption, secure boot, a true random number generator (TRNG), key storage, and secure XiP to keep data safe. These Wi-Fi 6 MCUs mark a significant leap toward a more efficient, secure, and seamlessly connected IoT ecosystem.
Chandana Pairla, VP of the Connectivity Solutions Division at Renesas, “These wireless solutions save power, simplify system design and lower BOM cost. With hosted or hostless implementation options, customers can confidently begin their wireless onboarding journey and seamlessly integrate into next-generation connected systems.”
