What does it take to keep power running in harsh environments? A rugged 160 W supply combines military standards with a commercial form factor.
Advanced Energy has launched a 160 W AC-DC power supply designed for harsh operating environments, combining military environmental and electromagnetic compatibility certifications with the availability of a standard commercial power supply.
The DF150 is the first model in the company’s Defiant Future family and is designed for applications across defence, industrial, telecommunications, transportation, and energy. It delivers a nominal 27 VDC at 6 A and maintains operation across temperatures from -46°C to +60°C.
The supply is certified to MIL-STD 810H, covering environmental conditions including shock, vibration, altitude variations, and thermal extremes. It also carries MIL-STD 461G certification for electromagnetic compatibility, covering a range of conducted and radiated emissions and susceptibility requirements.
For equipment deployed outdoors or in demanding environments, protection against dust and water can be as important as electrical performance. The DF150 has an IP67 rating, allowing it to withstand temporary submersion while protecting internal components from dust and liquid ingress.
The unit can deliver up to 91% efficiency at full load and operates without a minimum load requirement. Its leakage current is specified at 275 µA at 230 VAC. The power supply can use either conduction cooling through a base plate or convection cooling with a mounted heatsink, allowing it to be adapted to different system designs.
Advanced Energy is positioning the DF150 as a standardised alternative to some custom power supplies, with its military certifications intended to reduce the validation requirements associated with harsh-environment applications. The company also offers different input cable configurations and case options.
