TDK Corporation has launched the TDK-Lambda EDC series of programmable DC-DC power supplies. The series takes DC electricity at one voltage and converts it into DC electricity at another voltage. This allows different DC-powered systems, such as batteries and equipment, to work together. These power supplies help connect different DC power sources and equipment without needing complicated power-conversion arrangements. The series comes in two models: one is 1.5 kW and the other is 3 kW. These indicate how much power they can handle.

The company claims that the product reduces unnecessary conversion stages, which in turn improves integration capability with DC-grid architectures and distributed power systems. Up to three EDC units can be connected in series and 10 units in parallel to serve scalable system integration needs. This helps the EDC series adapt to a wide range of power requirements. The series is suitable for hydrogen generators, high-power battery chargers, switchgear for distribution boards in data centres, and solid oxide fuel cell systems.

Multiple units from the EDC series can work together as a single large system. One is the leader and acts as the main controller, while the other units only follow its instructions. This allows the system to deliver more power. The system’s condition can be checked remotely. For instance, you can see how many hours it has been switched on or how long it has been running. It also helps in checking whether any faults or alarms have occurred. This information can be helpful in identifying possible problems early.

The release states that the EDC series allows one DC-DC power supply to work with different electronic devices by adjusting its output voltage and current. Other key features include automatic ID assignment, which enables faster and more convenient multi-unit setup and reduces manual configuration.
