A new isolated power-conversion platform combines wide voltage ranges, digital control, and flexible output settings to simplify industrial power-system designs and reduce component inventory.

A new range of isolated DC-DC converters by TDK Corporation is designed to give industrial equipment makers greater flexibility in converting and managing DC power. The DDSM series, available as the DDSM120-0555-R0 and DDSM240-0555-R0, provides 120 W and 240 W output power, respectively, while supporting programmable voltage conversion across a broad operating range.
The converters accept a nominal 12 V to 48 V DC input, with an extended maximum input range of 10.8 V to 52.8 V. Their output can be configured from 5 V to 55 V DC, allowing a single converter platform to address systems requiring different supply voltages. The 120 W version delivers up to 5 A, while the 240 W model supports up to 10 A.

A key feature is the programmable architecture, which allows the output voltage to be adjusted for specific system requirements. This can help compensate for voltage drops across long cables, increase the supply voltage where additional loading capability is required, or generate isolated voltages for specialised loads and Power-over-Ethernet applications. The broad conversion range can also reduce the number of different power-supply part numbers that equipment manufacturers need to maintain.
The DDSM series incorporates digital control and monitoring through Modbus over USB. Its compatibility with the PowerCMC control and monitoring centre enables remote configuration and real-time monitoring. A front-panel two-digit display shows settings, alarms, and operating status, while three push buttons provide local control.
Efficiency reaches 91.7% for the 120 W model and 93% for the 240 W version, helping limit conversion losses and heat generation. The DIN-rail units measure 40 × 115 × 116.6 mm, making them suitable for space-constrained control cabinets.
Applications include factory automation, semiconductor manufacturing, renewable power systems, telecommunications, general industrial equipment, and test-and-measurement systems. The combination of isolation, programmable conversion, monitoring, and wide voltage support gives designers a single power platform for varied DC architectures.
