TDK announces high-power-density AC-DC power supply series for compact, efficient, and quiet medical and industrial system designs

TDK Corporation has introduced the DK-Lambda CUS1600M and CUS2000M AC-DC medical power supply series. The company claims that the series delivers up to 2 kW, combining power density with up to 95% efficiency and low audible noise. The series can help you create smaller, energy-efficient, and low-noise industrial, medical, and life science equipment.

The press release states that the power supplies provide a power density of up to 33.3 W/cu in in a compact package. This enables the power supplies to deliver more power in less space, which helps manufacturers design compact medical and laboratory equipment for space-constrained environments.

The CUS1600M and CUS2000M deliver 1600 W and 2000 W of power, respectively, with up to 95% efficiency, which implies that they convert most of the input electrical power into usable output power. This, in turn, reduces the wastage of energy as heat. Hence, they can reduce power consumption and lower associated carbon emissions while helping to reduce operating costs over the equipment’s lifetime.

The series is also considered quiet, with variable-speed fan control achieving audible noise as low as 35 dBA. Specifically, in hospital environments, noise is considered an important parameter since it can disturb patients’ sleep and impact their recovery and well-being.

The series is also certified to IEC 60601-1 and IEC 62368-1, with 2 × MOPP isolation, and has a leakage current of less than 0.250 mA. This reduces the time taken to develop a product and accelerates time to market.

To simplify the system’s EMC compliance, the series meets Class B conducted and radiated EMI requirements under EN 55032, EN 55011-B, and FCC-B. The power supplies also include additional features such as remote sense and remote on/off, which make them easier to connect to and control from other equipment.
