Robots Boost Precision In Manufacturing

With fluid dispensing technology, the robotic solutions enhance precision, efficiency, and reliability in electronics, automotive, and medical device manufacturing.

GVPlus and PROX

Nordson EFD, a subsidiary of Nordson and a manufacturer of precision fluid dispensing systems, have launched the GVPlus and PROX series of automated fluid dispensing robots. These robotic solutions focus on motion, workspace, repeatability, payload, setup, and vision technology.

The company claims both series are intended for professionals in fields that demand precise fluid dispensing, such as electronics manufacturing, automotive assembly, and medical device production. These systems benefit technicians, engineers, and production managers who aim to enhance their manufacturing processes’ precision, efficiency, and reliability.

The series offers repeatability at 8 μm, or ±0.008 mm, and supports tool payloads up to 4.5 kg (10 lbs) with a new dual mounting flange. The setup process is simplified, and the working area of 400 mm x 400 mm allows for various application configurations. Enhanced CCD smart vision cameras provide imaging on surfaces such as glass and plastics. EFD’s software ensures precise adjustments during dispensing.

The PROX series features linear motors that improve speed, reduce maintenance, and increase durability. With repeatability of ±0.003 mm across the X, Y, and Z axes and a workspace of 500 mm x 500 mm, these robots are suited for precise tasks. The CCD smart vision camera, used with the DispenseMotion™ software, automatically adjusts for variations during processes, ensuring consistent performance on various surfaces.

“With these enhancements to Nordson EFD’s automated dispensing product line, manufacturers will benefit from higher accuracy in fluid deposit placement along with greater versatility that comes from the larger working area and stronger, more durable X, Y, Z movement of the robot tooling,” said Claude Bergeron, Product Line Manager, Automated Dispensing Systems, Nordson EFD. “These improvements will help them meet the demands for higher volume, high-quality production.”
