A design tool helps engineers test drop, shock and vibration, find design problems before prototyping, reduce testing, and shorten product development time.

Keysight Technologies has announced Keysight Multiphysics, a design and verification solution that helps engineering teams evaluate the physics interactions that can lead to failures in modern electronic designs. The first release focuses on structural analysis, enabling engineers to simulate the effects of drop, shock and vibration and identify potential problems before building a physical prototype.
As electronic products continue to become more complex, electrical, thermal, mechanical and optical elements are being integrated into increasingly compact designs. The interactions between these different physical domains can create failure risks that are difficult to detect when each domain is evaluated separately. According to the company, effects in one domain can influence another, and these issues are often discovered only after a physical product is built, when redesigns are more expensive and development schedules may be affected.
Keysight Multiphysics integrates physics simulation directly into the electronics engineering workflow, reducing a process that traditionally takes weeks to one that can be completed in hours. The initial release provides structural analysis with compliance simulation for drop, shock and vibration. Previously, this stage often required multiple physical prototypes to be built and tested in external laboratories before engineers could identify design weaknesses, after design and manufacturing tooling had already been committed.
The solution includes pre-built application templates that incorporate simulation setup expertise into the workflow, improving simulation accuracy while allowing engineers to perform structural analysis without requiring a computer-aided engineering (CAE) specialist. This enables teams to identify and address potential failures earlier in the product development cycle.
