Targeting everyday lab workflows, the release helps engineers analyse difficult signals faster without changing how they already use oscilloscopes.
As our systems grow faster and more complex, engineers often face difficulties spotting intermittent signal issues, navigating long serial data streams and trusting automated measurements. Rare glitches can be missed, measurement decision points are not always clear, and correlating events over time can slow debugging and validation.
To address these challenges, PicoScope 7 software has been updated to version 7.2, focusing on clearer waveform visibility, faster analysis and greater confidence in measurement results. The update is designed to support everyday test, development and diagnostic workflows without adding complexity.
A key enhancement in version 7.2 is Waveform Overlays. This feature stacks multiple waveform captures in a single view, creating a visual envelope of normal signal behavior. By comparing repeated captures, engineers can more easily identify intermittent glitches, jitter and rare anomalies that may not appear in single shot measurements. The result is improved insight into signal integrity with less manual effort.
Another major addition is the Advanced Serial Filtering. This capability allows users to quickly search and isolate specific packets, data patterns or defined time ranges within long serial captures. The filters work across all 40 serial protocols supported by PicoScope 7, significantly reducing the time spent scrolling through decoded data.
To improve trust in automated results, Measurement Indicators have been added. These visual markers appear directly on the waveform and show exactly where values such as rise time or frequency are calculated. The update also enhances time stamping, with capture timestamps supported across platforms and high resolution trigger timestamps available on selected instrument series.
The key features include :
- Waveform Overlays for detecting intermittent glitches and jitter
- Advanced serial decoding filters across 40 protocols
- Measurement Indicators showing decision points on waveforms
- Capture and trigger timestamps with export to CSV
- Channel deskew, enhanced pass fail actions, and workflow refinements
Trevor Smith, Product Manager at Pico Technology, says that the update reflects direct feedback from the user community and is aimed at turning time consuming analysis tasks into faster, clearer insights.
