Ultra-Low-Profile Rectifiers With 12 A Current Ratings

A compact power package combines higher current handling, improved surge capability, and inspection-friendly construction for space-constrained power protection designs.

Rectifier

Vishay Intertechnology has expanded its surface-mount rectifier portfolio with four series designed to deliver 5 A to 12 A current ratings in a compact DFN6546A Power DFN package. The SE50N6x, SE80N6x, SE100N6x, and SE120N6x series cover 200 V, 400 V, and 600 V reverse-voltage ratings and are available in AEC-Q101 qualified variants for automotive applications.

The DFN6546A package measures 6.5 mm × 4.6 mm and has a typical height of just 0.88 mm, helping reduce board-area and clearance requirements. Compared with rectifiers using the same-footprint SMPC (TO-277A) package, these devices provide a 10% lower profile, 20% higher current ratings, and up to 82% greater forward surge capability. This combination makes them useful where power protection needs to fit into increasingly compact PCB layouts.

The key features are:

  • 0.88 mm typical package height
  • 6.5 × 4.6 mm DFN footprint
  • Up to 320 A forward surge current
  • Reverse leakage below 0.1 µA typical
  • IEC 61000-4-2 air-discharge ESD capability

The four series offer different current capabilities. The SE50N6x supports 5 A, SE80N6x supports 8 A, SE100N6x supports 10 A, and SE120N6x supports 12 A. Within each series, suffixes D, G, and J correspond to 200 V, 400 V, and 600 V reverse-voltage ratings, respectively.

The devices use an oxide planar chip junction and offer typical reverse leakage below 0.1 µA. Forward voltage drops as low as 0.77 V help reduce conduction losses, which can benefit efficiency in power paths. Their operating junction-temperature range extends from -55°C to +175°C.

A key packaging advantage is the wettable-flank construction, which enables reliable solder-joint visibility during automatic optical inspection (AOI). This can simplify manufacturing inspection compared with packages requiring X-ray inspection. The devices also support automated placement and have MSL 1 moisture sensitivity classification.

The rectifiers target power-line polarity protection and rail-to-rail protection in commercial, industrial, and automotive electronics. Their combination of compact dimensions, current capability, thermal performance, and surge handling can suit power supplies, automotive electronics, industrial control equipment, and other space-constrained power-management designs.
