New medical-grade cable modules combine chip-on-tip imaging, mini-LED illumination and ultra-thin cabling to help manufacturers accelerate development of compact single-use endoscopes.

OMNIVISION has expanded its OVMed portfolio with a new family of ultra-thin medical-grade LED cable modules designed for single-use endoscopes. The new modules, including the OCHTA10, OCHFA10, OCHFA20, OCHSA10 and OCH2B10 models, integrate an image sensor, wafer-level optics, LED illumination and cabling into a turnkey solution designed to reduce development complexity and shorten time-to-market for medical device manufacturers.
The OVMed cable modules are built around OMNIVISION’s OCHTA, OCHFA, OCHSA and OCH2B CameraCubeChip image sensors. By combining imaging, lighting and connectivity into a compact assembly, the modules eliminate much of the design and integration work typically required when developing disposable endoscopic systems.
The key features are:
- Wafer-level optics integrated with imaging and illumination components
- Manufactured in ISO 13485-certified facilities
- Offered with evaluation kits for faster prototyping and validation
Designed for chip-on-tip endoscope architectures, the modules enable high-quality image transmission from the device’s distal end while maintaining a small form factor. The ultra-thin cable design enhances flexibility and manoeuvrability, enabling endoscopes to access narrow anatomical pathways and deeper regions of the body. The solution is targeted at a broad range of applications, including bronchoscopy, ureteroscopy, cystoscopy, gastroscopy, colonoscopy, laparoscopy, arthroscopy, angioscopy and ophthalmic imaging procedures.
A key advantage of the modules is their compliance with medical electromagnetic compatibility requirements. The cables incorporate EMC/EMI shielding designed to meet IEC 60601 standards, helping to protect image quality during procedures involving high-energy medical equipment while minimising interference with nearby devices.
OMNIVISION also offers customisation options covering camera selection, cable type, connector configuration, LED illumination and distal-tip geometry. This flexibility allows manufacturers to tailor endoscope designs to specific clinical procedures while leveraging standardised platform components.
The OVMed cable modules undergo extensive medical-grade qualification, including operational, environmental, sterilisation, waterproofing, biocompatibility and EMC testing. The use of certified components and manufacturing processes can help streamline regulatory approval efforts for endoscope makers while providing healthcare providers with reliable imaging performance in disposable medical devices.
