An Ultra-Wideband design offers longer range, faster data rates, low power use, and support for positioning, radar sensing, and wireless applications.

Ceva has introduced its next-generation Ceva-Waves UWB IP (Ultra-Wideband Intellectual Property) with support for the IEEE 802.15.4ab standard. The IP provides up to 30× longer ranging and up to four times higher data rates while maintaining low power consumption and a small silicon footprint. It is designed for consumer, automotive, and industrial devices that need secure access, positioning, radar sensing, or wireless data communication.
The longer-range capability uses multi-millisecond (MMS) ranging techniques that combine ultra-wideband (UWB) and narrowband-assisted architectures. This allows UWB systems to move beyond short-range applications such as digital keys and trackers towards positioning across larger areas, including scenarios where devices need to operate behind walls.
The IP also uses improved channel utilisation and shorter localisation cycles to improve the link budget and reduce overall system power consumption. Its higher data rates support applications such as high-accuracy real-time location systems (RTLS), low-latency wireless peripherals, audio transport, and systems that combine ranging with radar sensing.
Ceva-Waves UWB IP is backwards compatible with IEEE 802.15.4z deployments. It also adds the sensing and data communication capabilities introduced by IEEE 802.15.4ab, allowing manufacturers to develop new UWB applications without moving away from existing deployments.
