The Wi-Fi 6 companion integrated circuits (ICs) family can operate at temperatures up to 105ºC.

Affordable Wi-Fi® built to work everywhere.

DALLAS – Texas Instruments have launched a new SimpleLink™ family of Wi-Fi 6 companion integrated circuits (ICs), which the company claims to be helpful to designers implementing highly reliable, secure and efficient Wi-Fi connections at an affordable price. According to the press release issued by the company, the ICs are most appropriate for use in environments with high density or high temperatures up to 105ºC. These ICs, when coupled with a microcontroller or processor, provide a dependable radio-frequency (RF) performance, enabling a secure connection for the Internet of Things (IoT) in diverse industrial markets such as grid infrastructure, medical, and building automation. The new SimpleLink family of Wi-Fi devices claims to provide a secure and durable wireless connection for outdoor and hard-to-reach industrial designs, such as an Electric vehicle (EV) charging system.

According to the company’s claim, the new ICs, part of Texas Instruments’s expanding wireless connectivity portfolio, are priced at a reasonable US$1.60. The devices offer improved Wi-Fi network efficiency and a dependable connection across over 230 access points while operating within a temperature range of -40ºC to 105ºC. In addition, these devices enable designers to connect their IoT edge nodes directly to the home or enterprise access points at an affordable cost without requiring extra equipment.

The press release highlights that the devices incorporate orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) technology and basic service set (BSS) coloring to provide rapid and reliable network performance, allowing multiple devices to connect simultaneously without congestion interference. The ICs support Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) security features, such as the latest WPA3 cryptographic technologies for personal and enterprise networks and a secure boot feature with firmware authentication.

The key features include the following:

  • Highly optimized Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth Low Energy 5.3 connectivity
  • 2.4-GHz PA for a complete wireless solution with up to +20-dBm output power
  • Operating temperature: -40°C to +105°C
  • Application throughput up to 50 Mbps
  • 40-MHz XTAL fast clock
  • Small package size : 40-pin, 5-mm x 5-mm quad flat noleaded (QFN) package, 0.4-mm pitch
  • Multirole support (STA and AP) to connect directly with other Wi-Fi devices on different RF channels (Wi-Fi networks)
