ESMO Group announces the launch of ARES Auto Setup, the world’s first final test manipulator capable of automated test head finding and positioning. It is designed for semiconductor manufacturers involved in the final test phase of production, automation engineers looking to improve efficiency through automated testing, production managers aiming to streamline processes and reduce labour costs, R&D teams exploring advancements in semiconductor technology, and companies seeking to transition from manual to automated test solutions. The company claims it is suitable for organizations focused on reducing human error, increasing precision, and enhancing overall productivity, quality control, and reliability in semiconductor manufacturing.

Unlike traditional final test manipulators, it automates movement across x, y, z, and rotational axes, enabling precise positioning of boards and test heads. This reduces the need for manual operation, saving time, resources, and costs. The setup offers various linear and rotational motions to meet different setup requirements.

With vision control and absolute value encoders, ARES Auto Setup ensures that each movement is precise and controlled, preventing errors that might impact the components under test. Automating the setup reduces the time for positioning and testing. With the “push of a button,” it quickly and accurately repositions components, helping manufacturers meet production deadlines.

Some of the key features of ARES Auto Setup:

  • System weight: 650 kg (1432 lbs) unloaded
  • Horizontal (x-axis): 440 mm (17.4”)
  • Horizontal (y-axis): 200 mm (7.9”)
  • Vertical travel (z-axis): 365 mm (14.4”)
  • Left-Right Compliance: 10 mm (0.4”)
  • Tumble adjustment: 3°
  • Rotation: 180°
  • Twist: 180°
  • Theta adjustment: ± 0.3°

Josef Weinberger, Head of the Business Unit at esmo Semicon, said, “Ares auto setup is an important step, not just for our company but also for the industry at large. With Ares auto setup, the world’s first automated final test manipulator, we are optimizing operational efficiency and, more importantly, shaping the future of semiconductor production processes.”
