Upbeat Technology has launched its Tiny AI Engine, a platform that combines MEMS vibration sensors, Vibration Processing Units (VPUs), and dual-core RISC-V AI microcontrollers to bring on-device intelligence to wearables, smart devices, drones, and industrial equipment.

The launch includes the UPM01 and UPM02 Vibration Processing Units, also known as Bone Conduction Microphones (BCMs), along with the UP201 and UP301 dual-core RISC-V AI MCUs.

The Tiny AI Engine is designed to support applications including open wearable stereo (OWS) headsets, smart glasses, smart voice recorders, AI toys, drones, and predictive maintenance systems. The platform combines voice processing, motion sensing, and edge AI capabilities within a compact footprint.

For voice applications, the platform combines a Bone Conduction Microphone with a conventional air microphone using sensor fusion algorithms. The system provides Environmental Noise Cancellation (ENC) in environments reaching 90 dB, enabling voice capture in locations such as subway stations and busy roadsides.

The company also introduced smart-glasses applications using the UPM02 sensor mounted in the nose bridge area. According to Upbeat, the sensor supports voice capture up to 6 kHz for female voices, helping improve voice interaction with AI assistants in noisy environments.

In industrial applications, the UP201 AI MCU works with the UPM01 vibration sensor to monitor machine vibrations up to 20 kHz. The system is intended for overhead cranes, conveyor systems, semiconductor equipment, drone motors, and other industrial machinery, enabling real-time anomaly detection and predictive maintenance.

The platform also supports AI-enabled voice recorders for transcription and meeting summarization, as well as gesture recognition in AI toys through swipe and double-tap controls.

Alongside the Tiny AI Engine, Upbeat launched the UP301 + UPM01 Falcon Demo Kit. The development platform includes a UP201 dual-core RISC-V AI MCU evaluation board, a variable-speed motor, two UPM01D modules, a power adapter, and access to the Falcon GUI software for vibration analysis. The kit is designed to help engineers evaluate and develop predictive maintenance applications.
