The Cat 1 bis modem works on global networks, uses one antenna, and helps launch IoT products faster while cutting cost and saving time.

Airgain has launched the NimbeLink Skywire Cat 1 bis Embedded Modem, now available for evaluation and commercial use. Developers can access dev kits, reference designs, and migration guides to speed up integration. Distribution is supported through DigiKey, Braemac, Mouser, GetWireless, Arrow, and Richardson.
The Skywire Cat 1 bis modem is pre-certified for end-use, helping developers reduce IoT deployment time and cost. It works across global carrier networks and allows products to launch up to 80% faster by eliminating the need for additional certifications.
Built on next-gen Cat 1 bis technology, the modem uses a single antenna—cutting BOM costs—while delivering wide coverage, dependable performance, and improved power efficiency. It supports applications like smart meters, sensors, trackers, gateways, and remote monitoring.
Offering Cat 1-level speed at a cost similar to Cat M modules, it provides a practical upgrade path for connected devices with moderate data needs and long deployment cycles.
As 2G and 3G networks sunset, Cat 1 bis is emerging as the preferred option for global, reliable IoT connectivity. The Skywire modem is designed for industrial systems, healthcare, logistics, and smart city deployments, making cellular integration simpler for developers.
- Pre-certified for select global networks, removing most regulatory certification steps
- Standard Skywire 20-pin footprint allows easy drop-in replacement in existing designs
- Priced 20–30% lower than older Cat 1 solutions
- Available in North American (TC1bisNAG) and Worldwide (QC1bisWWG) versions
- Industrial-grade size (29 x 33.9 x 10.8 mm), suited for tight spaces
- Uses the latest Telit and Quectel Cat 1 bis modules for long-term reliability
“The launch of our Cat 1 bis modem represents a meaningful step forward in simplifying cellular connectivity for IoT,” said Joe Porrazzo, Senior Director of Product at Airgain. “By combining end-device certification, plug-and-play integration, and global carrier support in a compact form factor, we’re helping customers reduce complexity, speed up development cycles, and deploy with rapid time-to-market.”
