A security key helps users log in without passwords, sign documents digitally, and protect accounts from phishing and other online attacks.

Infineon Technologies has launched the SECORA ID Key S USB, a Java Card-based security key that supports USB and NFC connectivity for passwordless login, secure authentication, digital signatures, and phishing-resistant access. It is the first FIDO Level 3+ certified security key compliant with CTAP 2.1.
The security key comes with preloaded applets for FIDO authentication, digital signatures, and public key infrastructure (PKI). Built on an open Java Card platform, it also allows developers to create and install their own applets for custom applications.
The device can be used for physical access control, crypto wallets, software rights management, and other identity-based applications, making it suitable for enterprises, financial institutions, and government organisations. It is designed to work even on systems without built-in smart card readers, helping simplify deployment across existing IT infrastructure.
The SECORA ID Key S USB is built on Infineon’s SLC38 crypto controller and runs a Java Card operating system compliant with Java Card 3.1 and GlobalPlatform v2.3.1. It provides 250 kB of user non-volatile memory, with additional memory available if the ISO file system applet is removed. The platform supports secure key management, encrypted communication, and digital signatures.
The security key is offered as a 4 × 4 × 0.85 mm system-in-package (SiP) that combines the security controller and USB bridge controller into a single package. This reduces the number of components and simplifies manufacturing and inventory management for OEMs.
“The demand for strong, passwordless authentication has never been higher. With SECORA ID Key S USB, we are giving organizations a proven, certified solution that addresses today’s security challenges while being simple enough to deploy at scale across any environment – from enterprise workplaces to government applications and financial institutions,” says Maurizio Skerlj, Senior Vice President and Product Line Manager for Authentication and Identity Solutions at Infineon.
To support product development, Infineon provides Java Card development tools, a configurator for creating custom applets and personalising the operating system, along with technical support, training, and consulting services.
