ROHM Semiconductor has developed a reference design for a 40W isolated flyback power supply based on pulse-width modulation (PWM) control. Intended for industrial and general-purpose AC-DC power conversion applications, the design provides a compact and efficient power supply solution while reducing external component count through an integrated high-voltage switching device. Comprehensive design resources are also provided to help engineers reduce development time.

The reference design accepts an Input voltage ranging from 90 V to 264 V at frequencies between 47 Hz and 63 Hz. It delivers a regulated 24 V output with a maximum output power of 40 W and an output current of 1.67 A. The design achieves a conversion efficiency of up to 91 per cent, while standby power consumption under no-load condition is approximately 47 mW.

It has been developed for use as an evaluation kit. It measures 160 mm × 55 mm. The PWM controller, together with the integrated high-voltage switching device, simplifies circuit design. The hardware maintains output ripple voltage below 100mV peak-to-peak without spike noise. The operating temperature range is -10°C to 65°C

ROHM provides the user manual, schematic diagrams, bill of material (BOM) and PCB layout files, these tools help engineers in understanding how a circuit works, evaluating its performance and modifying the design to suit their application requirements.

It provides a practical development platform for designing isolated AC-DC power supplies requiring high efficiency and low standby power consumption. By combining integrated switching with efficient PWM operation, the reference design provides a strong foundation for developing industrial-grade power supplies.
