Role Objective

Support ongoing flight test planning, execution, and operational activities for Sarla’s eVTOL program. The role focuses on assisting in safe test execution, aircraft preparation, and piloting support, while developing a strong foundation in flight test processes, safety practices, and system-level operations.

Key Responsibilities

Flight Test Execution Support:

  • Assist in preparing, coordinating, and executing ground and flight test activities
  • Support pre-flight and post-flight activities, including checklist execution under supervision.
  • Act as a ground safety observer and test spotter during hover and tethered flight campaigns.
  • Operate aircraft during test activities under supervision where required.

Flight Test Operations & Preparation:

  • Assist in preparing the aircraft for testing, including system connections, calibrations and GCS configuration.
  • Support readiness of test instrumentation, power systems, and ground support equipment.
  • Coordinate with engineering teams to ensure aircraft configuration and test requirements are met.

Documentation & Reporting:

  • Fill in flight test cards, logbooks, and real-time test notes under supervision.
  • Support maintenance of test documentation including test plans, checklists, and SOPs.
  • Assist in configuration tracking and version control of test setups.
  • Help prepare test summaries, including photos/videos and observations for post-test review.

Safety & Risk Awareness:

  • Adhere strictly to safety procedures and operational protocols during all test activities.
  • Demonstrate interest in risk assessment, hazard awareness, and structured test practices.
  • Assist in identifying and reporting anomalies, unsafe conditions, or deviations during tests.

Data & Systems Support:

  • Assist in logging real-time test parameters and coordinating with telemetry/GCS teams.
  • Support data extraction, organisation, and handover to engineering teams.
  • Assist in basic log monitoring and anomaly identification under supervision.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Recently completed a Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electronics, or related engineering field.
  • Valid DGCA Remote Pilot Certificate (RPC) – Small/Medium category (Mandatory).
  • Minimum 50 hours of hands-on UAV flying experience (Mandatory).
  • Flying experience across at least two of the following: multirotor, fixed-wing, or hybrid/VTOL platforms.
  • Experience operating UAVs in test, development, or operational environments.

Key Skills & Attributes

  • Strong interest in flight testing, aircraft operations, and piloting.
  • Basic understanding of aircraft systems, flight dynamics, and control systems.
  • Familiarity with ground control software (e.g., QGroundControl, Mission Planner) is preferred.
  • Basic proficiency in Excel and exposure to Python/MATLAB for data handling is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow structured procedures.
  • Safety-oriented mindset with interest in risk assessment and disciplined execution.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and communicate observations clearly.

Additional Requirements

  • Willingness to relocate temporarily or permanently as per flight test campaign needs.
  • Flexibility to work extended hours based on test schedules.
  • Physically capable of working in outdoor test environments and supporting field setups.
