The 6-axis sensor works in high car temperatures and helps with navigation, displays, door control, driving records, and other in-cabin functions.

TDK Corporation has introduced the InvenSense SmartAutomotive IAM-20680HV, a 6-axis IMU built for in-cabin automotive use. It integrates a 3-axis gyroscope and a 3-axis accelerometer into a compact 16-pin LGA package. The sensor supports a selectable gyroscope full-scale range up to ±125 dps, enabling high-resolution motion sensing.
It is fully pin-to-pin and register compatible with other TDK SmartAutomotive™ MEMS sensors in similar LGA packages. The IMU is designed to operate reliably up to +105 °C and can survive temperatures up to +125 °C, making it suitable for harsh automotive environments. It also features industry-leading low noise and tightly controlled sensitivity tolerances.
The compact size makes the IAM-20680HV suitable for integration into space-constrained systems. Its compatibility with existing TDK sensors allows for easy design updates or platform scaling. High-temperature tolerance ensures that the sensor performs consistently even in demanding cabin conditions, while the wide gyroscope range supports more precise motion tracking.
These advantages simplify the design process for engineers, reduce development time, and lower the risk of thermal-related performance issues. By offering high resolution and low noise, the sensor improves motion data accuracy, contributing to better system performance across applications.
As a result, the IAM-20680HV benefits a broad range of automotive systems. In GNSS modules, telematic boxes, and navigation systems, it improves location accuracy and motion tracking. In heads-up displays and cockpit domain controllers, it ensures smooth visual alignment and responsiveness. It also supports e-call systems, door control, and driving-style recording, helping deliver safer, smarter, and more efficient in-cabin experiences.
“In a fast-evolving automotive industry where high performance must meet affordability; innovation, scalability, and efficiency are no longer options,” said Alberto Marinoni, Senior Director Product Marketing Automotive at InvenSense, a TDK Group company. “Our technology empowers Tier 1s and OEMs to develop cutting-edge solutions in a cost-sensitive environment without compromising on quality or performance.”
