Expands the standard off-the-shelf power supply line to 660 W, certified for cardiac applications, allowing medical device designers to simplify the development process.

Advanced Energy Industries, Inc. has expanded its convection-cooled, CF-rated medical power supplies with the launch of the NCF660. This new offering joins the NCF family of products, which are designed to meet the stringent requirements for medical devices that come into direct contact with the heart or bloodstream.
The CF-rated system-level cardiac floating (CF) classification is the most demanding electrical safety standard for medical devices. The NCF660 provides the high levels of isolation and ultra-low leakage current—less than 10 microamps—necessary for such critical applications. The NCF660 is pre-qualified to these high safety standards, streamlining the development process for medical devices and providing enhanced patient protection.
“Traditionally, CF-rated medical devices required custom-developed power supplies and an extensive certification process. With the NCF660, we are offering a standard, pre-qualified power solution, simplifying the design and certification of these critical systems,” said Emdrem Tan, Executive Vice President, System Power at Advanced Energy. The key features are:
- CF Rated Leakage Current: <10μA
- 5 kV Defibrillator Withstand
- Size: 4”W x 7”L x 1.6”H
- Universal Input: 85 to 264 VAC, Class I
- Includes 5 V Standby Output
Certified to the IEC 60601-1 medical safety standard, the NCF660 allows medical system engineers to reduce development time and lower non-recurring engineering costs. In addition, the power supply comes with integrated features such as power surge protection, enhanced thermal management, and EMI shielding. These features simplify system design, reduce the overall system size and weight, and help decrease the bill of materials.
It is ideal for a range of medical applications, including surgical generators, cardiac assist devices, monitors, RF ablation, pulsed field ablation (PFA), and hemodialysis equipment. The 660 W power supplies offer 5 kV defibrillator pulse protection and meet the highest patient protection standards (2 x MOPP), ensuring isolation to 4 kVAC and a minimum creepage distance of 8 mm.
