Compact DC/DC Module Delivers 1A Regulated Output

A compact regulated power module supports wide input ranges, multiple fixed output voltages, high efficiency, and thermal operation for embedded electronic systems.

Compact DC/DC Module

The K78xx-1000R2 and K78xx-1000R3 DC/DC power modules from Rajguru Electronics (I) Private Limited provide regulated, non-isolated power conversion with up to 1A output current in a compact SIP3 package. The modules are designed for applications that need fixed DC voltage rails without the size and thermal-management requirements associated with conventional linear regulators.

The key features are:

  • 11.5 × 9 × 17.5mm compact package
  • 550–850kHz switching-frequency range
  • 20mV typ. ripple/noise
  • 2000K hours MTBF at 25°C per MIL-HDBK-217F
  • CISPR32/EN55032 Class B EMI performance

The K78xx-1000R3 series accepts input voltages ranging from 4.75V to 36V, depending on the output-voltage variant, while the K78xx-1000R2 series supports inputs up to 28V. Available fixed outputs include 3.3V, 5V, 9V, 12V, and 15V, with each version rated for a maximum 1000mA output. This allows the same module family to address different voltage-rail requirements in embedded designs.

Efficiency reaches 96%, depending on the selected model and operating conditions. The modules also feature low no-load input current, with the datasheet specifying a typical value of 0.1mA under the stated test conditions. Pin compatibility with the LM78xx series can simplify replacement or integration in existing regulator designs, while straight- and curved-pin package options provide additional mounting flexibility.

The modules operate across -40°C to +85°C, with output derating specified above 85°C. They use natural air cooling and do not require an external heat sink, making them suitable for space-constrained electronics. The device also supports negative-output configurations, as illustrated by the application circuit on page 4.

Applications can include embedded control electronics, industrial equipment, instrumentation, communication equipment, and other systems requiring compact regulated power rails. The datasheet also provides recommended input and output capacitors and an EMC circuit, helping designers integrate the module into complete power-supply sections.
