DC/DC Converter With Power Density of 4.73W/cm³

The TMR 12WI series from Traco is the latest series of isolated 12W DC/DC converter modules. The modules provide a regulated output featuring wide 4:1 input voltage ranges and offer high efficiency of up to 90% within an operating temperature range of –40° to +65°C. The converter module packs a high power density of 4.73W/ cm³ in a compact SIP-8 metal package. The module also offers continuous short circuit protection. The TMR 12WI series is suitable for a wide variety of operations that includes applications in communication equipment, instrumentation, and industrial electronics.

According to the company, the ultra-compact 12 W converter has one of the highest power densities in its segment. It has a power density of 4.73W cm³ and comes in an ultra-compact, SIP-8 metal casing occupying only 2.0 cm² (0.3 square inches) of board space. The module offers a high energy density of up to 90% and allows for an extended operating temperature range of –40° to +65°C without derating under natural convection conditions (see recommended PCB layout).

Furthermore, the module offers functionality such as remote On/Off control, continuous short circuit protection and an I/O isolation voltage of 1600 VDC. The very compact dimensions of these converters make them an ideal solution for many spaces critical applications in communication equipment, instrumentation and industrial electronics.
