E-Version Hybrid Flyback Controller ICs

Infineon Technologies AG expands its industry-leading power solutions with the launch of the E-version of its XDP hybrid flyback digital controller family. This latest innovation is designed for high-performance AC/DC applications, integrating an advanced asymmetrical half-bridge (AHB) topology to deliver superior power density and efficiency.

By merging the simplicity of traditional flyback converters with the high efficiency of resonant converters, this technology is ideal for chargers, adapters, power tools, e-bike chargers, industrial power supplies, TVs, and LED drivers. Compared to active clamp flyback (ACF) and LLC resonant converters, hybrid flyback technology reduces magnetic energy storage and leakage inductance, allowing for a more compact transformer design. The key features include:

  • 600V high-voltage start-up cell
  • Burst mode operation for ultra-low standby power
  • Half-Bridge Flyback (HFB) with Zero Voltage Switching (ZVS)
  • HFB peak current control for optimized performance
  • Integrated Power Factor Correction (PFC) and hybrid flyback topology
  • Built-in gate drivers compatible with Si and GaN devices
  • Enhanced jitter function for improved EMI reduction

The new E-version of Infineon’s hybrid flyback controller offers higher efficiency across varying output levels through multimode operation, ensuring optimal performance in different power conditions. It also features lower standby power consumption, meeting stringent CoC Tier 2 and DoE 7 regulations for energy efficiency. By integrating CoolGaN™ transistors, the controller delivers optimized performance with improved energy efficiency and reduced power losses. Additionally, its synchronized PFC and hybrid flyback start-up enhance system reliability, ensuring smooth and stable operation. To simplify implementation, the controller includes an intuitive design tool and guide, making configuration and integration seamless for developers.

This controller is tailored for compact and high-performance power supply designs, ensuring greater efficiency, lower losses, and higher reliability in next-generation applications. Featured products include a 140 W ultra-compact GaN charger, a 120 W multiport charger with best-in-class standby efficiency, and an ultra-slim 400 W power supply unit with over 97% efficiency for DC-DC voltage conversion.
